Coaching Courses and Requirements from Indiana Youth Soccer

Click here to see an Adobe Acrobat file of the requirements.

Now is a great time to arrange a Youth Module 1, Youth Module 2, Youth Technical Certificate, E Certification or D License Course for this coming fall.  Starting this fall, all coaches who participate in either a Youth Module 1 or Youth Module 2 will receive not only great instruction from our staff, a coaching manual, but the new US Youth Soccer Novice Coach DVD that has just been released.  These DVD’s will be given out FREE for all those who attend a Youth Module 1 and/or Youth Module 2 course. The Novice Coach features over 45 minutes of actual training sessions and activities with specific steps to organizing and conduct training sessions for Under-6, Under-8 and Under-10 boys and girls. In addition to the DVD a downloadable companion book is also included. The Youth Modules will also continue to be FREE of charge.   We are excited to be giving you this opportunity as another benefit of being a member of Indiana Youth Soccer.

Also this fall we will be bringing back the Youth Technical Certificate which is a five hour introductory coaching course for those who want more than a Youth Module. The objective of the Youth Technical Course (YTC) is to provide beginning coaches a basic understanding of:

The game of soccer

  • The role of the coach in soccer
  • To provide a basic understanding of the methodology of coaching in soccer
  • Show how to organize a training session
  • To provide a visual introduction to the basic techniques used in the game of soccer
  • To present activities (not drills!) to use when teaching technique in a training session
  • To show a model training session with players
  • To provide information on safety and prevention

This course is part of the minimum coaching standards that will be required for all those recreation coaches who coach U13 and above and all travel coaches that coach U9 up to U14.  Coaches of these levels will need this minimum by fall (travel) 2006 and spring (recreation) 2006.  The cost is $35 per coach although they will hopefully be online as well as the Youth Module 1 and Youth Module 2 very soon.  There will be a YTC here at the Indiana Youth Soccer Office on Sunday, June 26th.  You can arrange one as well for your club/association this summer and fall.

July and August are a terrific time to educate coaches and those that have had me travel to your club/association know that I do not mind the drive to help your coaches.  The Indiana Youth Soccer Education staff is just as committed, so please do not hesitate to ask for a course.  It is really just a matter of emailing or calling me, picking some dates, and then letting me find an instructor if I am unavailable.   It is very helpful if you email or call me about 3-4 weeks in advance although it is not necessary but recommended.

Please remember that the Youth Module 1, Youth Module 2 and Youth Technical Course will be offered completely online.  The E and D courses will be offered online beginning in the spring of '06 but there will still be a field requirement.  The amount of time for the E and D courses will be about half what is it now.
